Lately when I’ve been thinking of you The world around me stops As though I’m in a new dimension Just me and my intrusive thoughts It’s there that it starts to itch again And I’m where I shouldn’t be There’s comfort in the quiet places Where I like to scream Then you walk in Never too soon Hopelessly unaware of the energy in the room (And that’s when you’re like) Pop the champagne Go fetch the flutes Pop the champagne I say any glass will do You keep a bottle on hand for occasions just like this And you lose my attention Before a drop ever hits Lately when I’ve been thinking of you I get pains deep in my chest I always know it’s coming But I can’t prepare for it The itching falls in sequence to the bitter taste you bring Envy is such a filthy flavour dripping from your lips And then you walk in Never too soon Hopelessly unaware of the energy in the room Oh you’re so sweet it’s vintage I can’t ever tell the difference You shouldn’t have, I insist The smell alone it makes me sick

From the other room I hear the squeaking of your chair Cutting through the static That sits right between my ears Breathing awfully loud from way over there I tick a little faster with every inhale Better late than never Best if not at all Keep tripping on the foot you leave Sticking out the hall Spinning the rotary with no one to call Nothing ever changes, just the packages they come Do you hear her? Shuffling her feet Do you see her? Avoiding your reach Do you know her? What’s in a name Can you feel her? Pulling away Better late than never Best if not at all Keep tripping on the foot you leave Sticking out the hall When we talk About the weather I’d rather not at all Can’t distract from the pressure Building up between these walls

Little Fish 04:00
You can’t help but give up your cards Found your stash, full pack, at the back of the garage It was hidden in plain sight waiting to get caught You want the truth to set you free But you love that hollow feeling Stupid little fish Haven’t learned yet how to use those fins Low supply, no oxygen No survival instinct You’re gonna die if you don’t swim Stupid little Sanctimonious without the faith Using holy water to cool down in this heat Publicly while the neighbours watch Captivated audience Proud boy pissing in the garden A daughter saw, it’s been called in Strong current Dead fins A gang of barracuda circle in

about

When I first start playing music and learning about records, all I wanted to do was release my own. I thought maybe I'd release my first record when I was like 15, but, it ended up taking 30. Time has a way of getting away from you, but I've always found myself going back to this thought in some capacity or another. I guess all I needed was a pandemic to get around to it. A silver lining in what is a very strange time.

I dusted off my old guitars and recorded this by myself in one very small room in my house, with 1 microphone and the same headphones I bought back in 2007 when I first started learning how to engineer records. The idea was to get back in my old head space and make what I thought my first record might've actually sounded like so I can finally say I did it. Of course, I'm a little older now so this is sort of a modern retelling. I wasn't expecting to be the drummer and the bassist when I got around to this, but hey, here we are.

It's a little gritty, it's certainly not perfect, but it sounds like me when I listen back to it, and that's all I wanted to hear... this time around.

Consider this a small sample of what's to come since it looks like we'll be hanging around for a while.

It's free, so, if it's not your taste you won't feel bad for checking it out :)

But if you like what you hear, stick around, cause there'll be more to come.

about

Neither Could Dylan Vaughan, Ontario

Equipped with the casual snarkiness of fellow Canadians Treble Charger, the tranquillic and thoughtful introspection of Death Cab For Cutie and the immersive melodic stylings of Jimmy Eat World, Neither Could Dylan emerged in the summer of 2020 with an aesthetic all her own. Affectionately dubbed “Canadian Punkabilly,” it’s a little punk, a little folk, a little pop and all rock and roll. ... more
