Bruises

Woke up with a bruise down the right side of my face
To my surprise, the bottles gone, no footsteps, not a trace
It’s been a little while since I felt this way
Once I’m again I’m not sure if I should stay
I know if I got out in time I’d manage to be okay
But I’m still holding on, to what I can’t quite place
I pick up the phone, rehearse what I think I’d say
The breakdown begins as I land on your name
I’m at a loss so I try to find myself again
But it’s typical I’m thinking about you instead
I don’t wanna talk, I’ve got nothing to say
A pause before the downpour
A quiver before the earthquake
I still can’t understand
After all of the time we spent
When it came down to a decision
You chose her instead
And I know it wouldn’t be so bad if you called once in a while
But she’s got your hands tightly tied and you’re still in denial
So I lay still for a while, hope tonight’s the last of it
Pick up the phone again, my finger hovers over it
I still can’t understand
After all of the time we spent
When it came down to a decision
You chose her instead

Not That Kind of Friend
02:59

No I don’t want another drink
I’d rather talk about the world, places we wish we’d see
But you never have much to say
Until it all pours out of you in agony
In the parking lot as we go to leave
Another tragic staged scene with poor blocking and worse acting
And you expect me to stay
and make it better
At least okay
But I’m not the kind of friend that waits
No I don’t want another drink
I’d rather talk about the game, you know I love a hopeless team
You never have much to say
Except to explain the subtleties to sports I played throughout my teens
Still you expect me to stay
Things will get better
That’s what you say
But you’re not that kind of man
And I’m not the kind of friend that waits
Don’t leave me in the middle of the concrete
Don’t let me dry out with the wind
I can do better, fingers crossed, I swear I promise
Just don’t leave me like this
Still you expect me to stay
Things aren’t getting better and
It’s not okay
But you’re not that kind of man
And I’m not the kind of friend that waits
Still you expect me to stay
Things aren’t getting better and
We’re not okay
You’ll never be that kind of man
And I’ve got somewhere else to be

Walking Home
03:28
|

Just one more and it's time to go
I know you've heard that one before
One turns to three, four, and the bar's still open
I'm about to hit the floor
I don't know what I need and
I should probably sleep
Put that bottle on the shelf
I swear this time I mean it
Good lord won't you keep me away from myself
Now this has got to stop
Before it breaks my clock and
Ends this ride before I'm through
This time I swear I mean it
Good lord can't you see I want this so much more than you
Looks like tonight we're walking home
Looks like tonight we're walking home
Looks like tonight we're walking home
Looks like tonight we're walkin'
Well I'd love to stay but I really must be goin'
Lets never do this again
Well I'd love to stay but I really must be goin'
Before I reach for another
Well I'd love to stay but I really must be goin'
Lets never do this again
Well I'd love to stay but I really must be goin'
As I reach for another
Looks like tonight we're walking home
Looks like tonight we're walking home
Looks like tonight we're walking home
Looks like tonight we're walkin'

Neither Could Dylan Vaughan, Ontario
Equipped with the casual snarkiness of fellow Canadians Treble Charger, the tranquillic and thoughtful introspection of Death Cab For Cutie and the immersive melodic stylings of Jimmy Eat World, Neither Could Dylan emerged in the summer of 2020 with an aesthetic all her own. Affectionately dubbed “Canadian Punkabilly,” it’s a little punk, a little folk, a little pop and all rock and roll. ... more
